Description
The Chequers Public House is an early 19th-century public house that incorporates an older rear wing. It features a yellow brick exterior painted white and a slated roof, while the timber-framed and roughcast rear wing has a steep red tile roof. The building is two storeys tall with a cellar and has a double-pile, double-fronted layout with a central entrance and end chimneys. The older two-storey rear wing is located at the northwest.
The main east-facing front has four pilasters above a low plinth, creating a symmetrical facade with a narrower central bay. There are three upper windows, which are recessed sash windows with 8/8 panes and segmental arches. The ground floor openings have wider similar arches. Flanking the entrance, which is accessed by three steps, are canted bays with sash windows. The entrance features small-paned half-glazed double doors set within a hooded surround. A wrought iron sign bracket is positioned off-centre. The building is included for its group value.
