Description

This building, now two separate houses at 91 and 93 High Street, Buntingford, originated as a timber-framed structure dating back to the 16th century. It was subsequently renovated during the 18th and 19th centuries. The exterior is timber frame construction with a stuccoed sill, finished with roughcast rendering, an all-over fan pattern in pargeting, and plain margins and quoins. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with old red tiles.

The building is a long, low two-story structure, with jettied overhangs on the north side (number 93). The first floor has three windows, each with three lights and leaded glass. The ground floor has three windows: a transomed three-light flush casement to the left and right of a battened door leading to number 91. This door has a moulded frame and a flat hood above it. Number 93 features knee-braces below the jetty, and a flush-box sash window with margin lights to the left of a four-panel flush beaded door, which leads up three steps and has a moulded surround. A contemporary rear wing extends to the northwest, with a large chimney marking the junction between the wings.
