Description
No 85 High Street is a house that has been converted into a house and shop. It dates from the 17th century or earlier and features a timber frame on a stucco sill, with roughcast walls and steep old red tile roofs. The building is L-shaped and has one and a half storeys, facing east.
The front of the house includes three gabled dormers at the eaves, each with 2-light 19th-century casement windows. There is a central four-panel, half-glazed door set in a moulded frame, topped with a flat hood supported by shaped brackets. To the left, there is a three-light 19th-century flush casement window with a hood, and to the right, an early 20th-century shopfront. A large chimney rises from the south gable through the front slope.
Additionally, there is a well-crafted tarred moulded plank door in the north gable. The rear wall is dark weatherboarded, and there is a later plastered lean-to. A box dormer is located at the rear, along with a one and a half storeys rear wing at the southwest.
