Description
No 81 High Street is a house that dates from the 17th century or earlier, with an 18th-century front. It features a timber frame that is roughcast, topped with steep old red tile roofs. The house is a small two-storey L-plan structure, with a carriageway through the northern part and a southwest rear wing. The layout includes a lobby-entry and a central chimney, with stairs located at the rear of the stack. There is an internal west gables chimney in the rear wing.
The front of the house has a moulded wooden eaves cornice, two windows on the upper floor, and one window to the left of the central door. On the left-hand side, there is a two-storey projecting bay window with sash windows and canted corner-lights. Above the carriageway, there is a similar oriel window with a coved base and small brackets supporting the lintel. The entrance features a six-panel raised and fielded door with a step, a moulded surround, and a dentilled open pediment on brackets.
