Description

Tring Lodge is a lodge for Rossway, likely built in 1802 for Robert Sutton of Highgate. The main house, originally named Rothway, was rebuilt in 1863. The lodge is constructed from uncoursed knapped flint and features a steep hipped roof covered with red scalloped tiles. The roof extends down to create a rustic verandah on the north, west, and south sides, supported by rough wooden columns resembling trees, with braces. There is a weatherboarded rear extension. This single-storey rectangular gate-lodge faces west and has a symmetrical front with two windows and a central door. The flint corner pilasters and raised surrounds frame the pointed two-light casement windows. Tring Lodge is similar to a pair at Chesham Lodge in Wiggington Parish and is related to Berkhamsted Lodge.
