Description
The double barn at Marchants Farm is an early 17th-century structure. It features a timber frame set on a tarred red brick sill and is covered with dark weatherboarding and steep old red tile roofs. The barn is tall and faces south, consisting of three bays on each side, with a partition in the middle. Each half has a gabled porch that projects from the middle bay, with a winnowing door opposite each porch. The barn has heavy jowled posts with long straight braces supporting cambered tie-beams. The long bays include unjowled central posts, with a similar central post in the partition. The roof is a clasped-purlin design supported by angled queen-posts.
