Description
Crab Tree Farmhouse is a late 16th century timber-framed farmhouse that has two and a half bays and two storeys. It was refronted in brick around 1800 and is now colourwashed. The roof is slate. There is a band course and a door located in the right-hand half bay, with a single light window above it. The farmhouse features two three-light casements. There is an 18th century stack on the left gable and a 16th or 17th century stack positioned between the right-hand bay and the half-bay that backs onto the entry passage, which may have been inserted later. The north gable elevation shows exposed timber-framing. The rear roof is pitch tiled. At the back, there is an early 18th century stair wing that includes the original closed string staircase. The 16th century part of the farmhouse has chamfered and stopped spine beams, and there is a cellar beneath the left-hand bay. The inglenook features a Jacobean cupboard with a balustered centre.
