Description
The Goffs Oak War Memorial is a First World War memorial that also includes names added after the Second World War. It is made of dressed Portland stone and is centrally located in the historic centre of the village, at the junction of Goffs Lane, Cuffley Hill, and Newgatestreet Road.
The memorial is designed as a cenotaph, standing 16 feet (4.87 meters) tall on a square plinth. At the top of the front face of the cenotaph is a plain stone tablet that displays the dates 1914-1918. Below this, on the plinth, there is a moulded rectangular stone tablet inscribed with the words "IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF GOFFS OAK WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR," which is topped with a carved laurel wreath. The names of the fallen are inscribed on the other three sides of the plinth. On the rear side of the cenotaph, there is a plain stone tablet that features the dates 1939-1945, along with the names of three men who also fell during the Second World War.
