Description

Flitcham War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1920, with additions for the Second World War. It is made of stone and slate and is located at the center of the village, within an enclosed roadside garden on Anmer Road (B1153) at the junction with Church Road.

The memorial features a stone obelisk that rises from a tapering, four-sided plinth with moulded tiers at its base and a single step stone base beneath. The plinth has triangular pediments on each side with moulded cornicing. The names and inscriptions are incised on a slate plaque attached to the west side of the plinth. The dedication reads: IN MEMORY OF/ THE MEN WHO FELL IN/ THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918/ (24 NAMES)/ IN MEMORY OF THE MEN/ WHO FELL IN THE 1939-45 WAR/ (2 NAMES).

The memorial is situated within a small triangular garden, which is enclosed on the west by a dwarf boundary wall made of coursed stone blocks with rounded coping. A small metal gate provides access to the memorial, while the rest of the garden is bordered by a hedge.
