Description

HILLINGTON HILLINGTON HALL TF 72 NW 3/32 Dovecote at TF 7239 2617 GV II Dovecote C18 with early C19 alterations, carstone with brick dressings. Square with pyramidal roof of black glazed pantiles. Plinth of galletted carstone, shell carstone with brick platband and eaves courses, dogstooth cornice, central wooden octagonal louvred lantern with embattled parapet. Doorway to east with quoined jambs, segmental arch with alternate dark headers; openings to west and south of 3 lights in stone with stone mullions and Gothick heads, probably of 1824 when W.J. Donthorne rebuilt the adjacent hall now demolished. Interior: 17 tiers of brick holes to each wall, central wooden post on very large brick plinth, roof timbers partly renewed.
