Description
The forecourt wall located south-east of Hillington Hall Lodge was built between 1824 and 1828 by William Donthorn. It features quadrant walls that face the South Lodge of Hillington Hall. Constructed from coursed carstone rubble, the wall includes some Sandringham carstone and has concrete coping. This structure is part of a pair, with each wall having a large square plinth next to the road, accented by Sandringham carstone quoins and flat stone tops. Each wall also has the remains of a 15th-century limestone cross on top: the east cross has a square socket stone and the lower meter of a square weathered shaft, while the west cross is similar but has trivets on the socket stone and a shorter stump of the shaft. The quadrant walls extend east and west to smaller section piers, which have shallow pyramid caps. Together, they form part of the planned entry to Hillington Hall through the lodge opposite.
