Description
Warren Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmhouse constructed of galletted clunch, carstone and some Sandringham sandstone, with pantile roofing. The main part of the farmhouse consists of a single range of three bays and two storeys, with a 19th-century service wing added to the rear left. There are end internal stacks and a small axial stack in the centre.
The farmhouse’s north-facing front features a two-storey, projecting carstone stair turret in the central bay, topped with a hipped roof. The turret has a recessed sash window with 4x4 panes and a door to the left return. To the left of the turret, there are blocked openings and renewed windows. The ground floor bays flank the turret with 3-light casements with transoms, while the first floor has a small flush swivel window in bay 1 and a 4x4 pane flush sash window with glazing bars in bay 3. A small single-storey carstone addition with a slate roof extends to the left. The left return is mainly galletted clunch, with casements to the ground and first floor. A lower, two-bay, two-storey carstone addition was built in the 19th century and is situated to the left, featuring an internal stack, a gable to the right, renewed steel-framed ground-floor windows, a door to the left, and casements with pintle hinges on the first floor. The right return has blocked openings in galletted clunch on the ground floor, with galletted Sandringham sandstone on the ground and first floors, along with traces of blocked attic windows. The rear of the house shows varied openings, some changed, renewed, or inserted, including a 2-light casement to the ground floor of bay 1, with a 2x4 pane flush sash window above, and a French window with glazing bars in bay 2, with a 2x3 pane flush sash window above.
Inside, the roof timbers were wholly renewed in the mid-20th century. A 19th-century closed string dogleg staircase features a ramped handrail. A cell to the east displays ogee chamfer stops to the cross beams. A stair is located in front of the east stack.
