Description
The forecourt wall located south-west of Hillington Hall Lodge is a Grade II listed structure built between 1824 and 1828 by William Donthorn. This quadrant wall is constructed from coursed carstone rubble, incorporating some Sandringham carstone, and features concrete coping. It is part of a pair of walls, each with a large square plinth next to the road, accented by Sandringham carstone quoins and flat stone tops.
Atop each wall are the remains of 15th-century limestone crosses; the eastern cross has a square socket stone and the lower meter of a weathered square shaft, while the western cross is similar but includes trivets on the socket stone and a shorter stump of the shaft. The quadrant walls extend east and west to smaller section piers, which have shallow pyramid caps. These walls are integral to the planned entry to Hillington Hall, situated opposite the lodge.
