Description
The Barton St David War Memorial is a First World War memorial obelisk dating from the 1920s, with later additions for the Second World War, situated within a garden of remembrance.
Constructed of stone, the memorial features a square plan obelisk with a tapering shaft that is mounted on a tall tapering plinth. The plinth has moulded panels and a shallow base. The front face of the shaft displays a wreath emblem and the words "LEST WE FORGET" in relief. The front face of the plinth is inscribed with "IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918" followed by names and the years "1939" and "1945" with additional names. The left and right faces of the plinth are inscribed with "ROLL OF HONOUR" along with names. The memorial is set within a paved garden of remembrance, which includes a rubble stone front wall with an iron gate and an iron railed fence at the rear.
