Description

A First World War memorial, erected circa 1920, altered after the Second World.

MATERIALS Stone.

DESCRIPTION The war memorial takes the form of a coped calvary on a tapering, octagonal shaft, set on a square plinth, all on an octagonal platform of two steps. The base is inscribed, to the front face: IN / HONOURED MEMORY / OF THE MEN FROM THIS PARISH / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES / IN THE GREAT WAR / LEST WE FORGET / JESU MERCY / PRAY FOR THE SOULS OF / (NAMES) / MDCCCXIV MDCCCXIX. The right face is inscribed: ALSO / IN HONOURED MEMORY OF / (NAMES) / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE / SECOND WORLD WAR / 1939 – 1945 / WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.
