Description
The Winforton War Memorial is a First World War memorial dating from around 1920, which was altered after the Second World War. It is made of timber and has a stone base.
The memorial is prominently located beside one of the entrances to the churchyard, near the Church of St Michael and All Angels, which is listed as Grade II*. It features a wooden hooded Calvary cross with a figure of Christ, positioned on a three-stepped stone base. In front of the cross is a stone wall that displays the inscriptions.
The main inscription on the wall behind the cross is in raised lettering and reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO DIED IN THE GREAT WAR." Below this, in incised lettering, are the names of those commemorated, along with the years 1939–1945.
