Description
WINFORTON CP WINFORTON SO 24 NE 5/123 The Malt House - II House. C17, altered mid- to late C19 and mid-C20. Timber-framed with painted brick and rendered infill on rubble base, partly rendered and refaced in painted rubble with some painted brick replacement walling; plain tiled roofs. L-plan; main range of two framed bays aligned east/ west has large external rubble chimney with brick stack and former bread oven at rear. Cross-wing also of two framed bays adjoins east end and has small external rubble chimney with a tall brick stack at its east side elevation. Single storey and attic with dormers. Framing: three panels from sill to wall-plate. Collar and tie-beam trusses with struts and V- struts above collar exposed at west end and rear north end of wing. South front elevation: main range has two ground floor 2-light casements, two gabled dormers with 2-light casements and main entrance which has a gabled timber porch and ledged and battened door with a moulded architrave. Cross-wing gable end to right has a 3-light ground floor casement and an attic light. All windows have plank weatherings. (RCHM, III, p 213, item 9).
