WINFORTON CP WINFORTON SO 24 NE 5/129 Penny's - II

House. C17, altered and refaced late 019 with further mid-C20 altera- tions and additions. Timber-framed with painted brick and rendered infill on rubble base, painted brick refacing and additions and stone- tiled roof laid in diminishing courses with brick ridge end stacks. T- plan; main range of two framed bays aligned east/west with single-bay framed wing on south side flanked by lean-to outshuts with catslide roofs. Part two storeys, part single storey and attic (roof raised on north side). Framing: three panels from sill to wall-plate with subsidiary rails to south wing. Only two rows of panels survive at first floor level to north side of main range (the upper row was added when the roof was raised). Roof truss partly survives at east end. Collar and tie-beam truss with struts and swept V-strut above collar at south end of wing. North front elevation: main range has two 2-light casements with plank weatherings and a 3-light casement on the ground floor and three first floor 2-light casements. Main entrance to left of centre has a flat stone canopy on shaped brackets and a C20 door. Large C19 cross-wing at west end has a 3-light casement with a cambered head on both floors at its north gable end. (RCHM, III, p 213, item 6).
