Description

Darch House is a 17th-century house that was altered in the early 19th century. It features roughcast over random rubble and has a double Roman tiled bell cast roof with brick stacks at the gable ends. The house is two storeys high and has two bays, with early 19th-century three-light leaded iron casements that have quadrant stays. The central doorway is topped with an open pediment that has a fluted frieze supported by console brackets. The door itself is an early 19th-century six-panel design with reeded surrounds and an 18th-century knocker.

Inside, there is a four-panel compartment ceiling with hollow chamfered beams, which have been cut on one side due to the movement of the axial wall. There is evidence of a staircase bay to the right of the fireplace and a curing chamber to the left, along with collar and principal roof structures.

In front of the house, there are railings and a dwarf wall that return on the left side of the property. The railings are made of cast iron with a spearhead design. The gate opposite the entrance features a quatrefoil circle design with C-scrolls in segments, which is similar to the design on the left return. These gates are identical to those at West Kilton Farmhouse in Stringston.
