Description

The Pear Tree comprises a pair of cottages located in a terrace on the south side of St. Andrews Road in Stogursey. The site has a history dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries, although the existing buildings were altered in the mid-19th century. Constructed over a rubble base and rendered, the cottages have separate roofs, with the roof of No. 8 being slightly higher and steeper, covered in pantiles. A stack rises from below the roof ridge on the left side of No. 8, while a stack is located on the right gable end of No. 7. The cottages have a single-cell plan, with extensions to the rear. Each cottage is two storeys high and one bay wide. They feature 19th-century two-light casement windows, and a plank door is located on the inner side. The interior of No. 7 displays steeply chamfered beams with step and runout stops. A winder staircase is positioned to the right of the fireplace, which has a chamfered lintel, and a cupboard is located to the left. No. 8 has a similar plan, but the staircase has been repositioned within the rear extension. The upper storey was not inspected.
