Description
The railings, gate, and dwarf wall in front of Old Cross House on High Street date from the early 19th century. They are made of cast iron, featuring uprights that are cross-shaped in section, with decorative cresting and S-shaped stays. These are set into a rendered dwarf wall. The gatepiers are square with trefoil-headed panels and enriched cresting, and the gate matches the design of the railings. Although the overall design and execution are of above-average quality, the gatepiers were noted to be in poor condition during a survey in September 1983. The entrance for which the gate was originally intended has since been replaced by a window.
