Description

A pair of cottages dating from the 17th century, located on the north side of High Street in Stogursey. They are built with roughcast over random rubble, and have a steeply pitched pantiled roof. There are brick stacks to the left gable end and between the second and third bays, with a large, stepped external stack to the right gable end. The cottages have two storeys and originally had 2:5 bays, though the third and seventh bays on the left are now blocked. The windows are generally 2-light casements. On the ground floor, a 5-light window is centrally placed on the left side, with a 20th-century window and two 2-light casements flanking the entrance to No.14. To the right of the entrance to No.12 are two 2-light casements. No.14 has a 6-panel door within a pedimented doorcase featuring dentil moulding, a fluted frieze and fluted pilasters. No. 12 has a 20th-century plank door. It is reported that the cottages have a jointed cruck construction. The interior was not inspected during listing. They form part of a group with Nos. 8 and 10 to the right.
