Description
The Higham War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1920, with additions for the Second World War. It was designed by Mr. H.G. Neville of Mildenhall and is made of Portland stone.
The memorial features an obelisk that stands on a three-stepped square base. At the top, there is a large capital that is intricately carved with sprigs of ivy, leading to a pyramidal cap.
The main inscription, located on the south face of the obelisk, is in incised lettering and reads: "THIS MONUMENT WAS ERECTED IN / EVER GRATEFUL REMEMBRANCE OF / THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO GAVE / THEIR LIVES FOR GOD AND KING FOR / RIGHT FOR FREEDOM AND FOR PEACE / IN THE GREAT WAR / 1914–1919 / [Names]."
On the east face, there is a dedication for the Second World War, which reads: "1939 - 1945 / [Names]."
