Description
Collier Street Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 16th century. It is timber framed and plastered, with the studwork exposed on the north elevation. The building is one storey high with attics, featuring a half-hipped thatched roof and a rebuilt concertina type stack located off-centre on the ridgeline. An eyebrow dormer is present on the front elevation, along with 19th-century casement windows that have cross-pattern glazing bars. There is a later stack on the east flank elevation. The cottage may have originally been an open-hall, indicated by stop-chamfered bridging joists and a date plaque or support block marked 'RM637' with stop-chamfered sides. The roof includes arch-braced side purlins, and the internal wall braces are nearly straight. The east bay of the cottage was formerly used as a parlour or solar.
