Description
This 17th and 18th century shop and flat occupies a prominent position on the west side of High Street, Great Dunmow. The building is timber-framed and mostly plastered, with the north gable wall constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern. This gable features a truncated top and a chimney stack. The roof is gabled and covered with peg tiles, extending over a large stack located off-centre on the front roof slope. The first floor has three double-hung sash windows with moulded surrounds and small panes of glass. The ground floor includes a projecting 20th-century lean-to structure with a shop front featuring large panes. A small, peg-tiled roofed link block connects the building to number 48. The building is listed primarily for its contribution to the group value of the surrounding buildings.
