Description

This is a mid-18th century shop building located on the west side of Market Place in Sturminster Newton. It is constructed of brick in a Flemish bond pattern, and the exterior has been colour washed. The roof is tiled, with a brick end stack on the left-hand side. The building is two storeys high with an attic, originally featuring a four-window arrangement. A shop front, likely dating to the 19th century, includes a central door. Above the shop front are four 19th-century sash windows, which lack glazing bars and are set beneath brick segmental arches. The attic has two dormers, each containing a two-light casement window with glazing bars. A plat band runs along the facade, stopping short of the sides. A heavy moulded cornice tops the building. The building was previously listed under different names, reflecting its use as a curtains and bed linen premises and prior to that, as part of the Co-operative Stores (north block).
