Description

This early 19th-century shop and flats occupies a prominent position on the east side of Great Dunmow Market Place. The building is timber-framed, now plastered, and has a gabled slate roof. The front elevation is three storeys high, with a gable-end stack at the north end. The second floor features two two-light casement windows without glazing bars. The first floor has two double-hung sash windows with moulded surrounds and small panes of glass. The ground floor contains a mid-19th century projecting shop front, which has canted ends and a recessed entrance. The shop front’s mullions are arched, with a moulded cill and iron shutter supports. The building is listed primarily for its group value.
