Description
This early 19th century building in Great Dunmow Market Place is a combination of shops and a former house. The rear and sides are built of red brick, while the front is of gault brick, now painted. It has a slate hipped roof with a large gault brick stack positioned behind the ridge at the southern end. The front façade has a recessed central section featuring a double-hung sash window with small panes and margin glazing bars, topped by a segmental head. Below the window is a stucco moulded band and an elliptical-headed opening leading to a recessed porch, which itself has a stucco band and pilasters. The projecting sides each have tripartite sash windows above 20th-century shop fronts. The building is included on the list primarily for its contribution to the group value of the surrounding buildings.
