Description
This is a 15th-century timber-framed and plastered shop and flat, originally a hall house. It has a gabled peg tile roof with a lower pitch over the crosswing at the north end. The jettied north end features a double-hung sash window with small panes on the first floor, above a canted bay window with similarly small panes. A contemporary fire mark is on the jetty. The main part of the building has two double-hung sash windows with small panes over a 20th-century shopfront. At the north end is the base of a 16th-century chimney stack with a 19th-century rebuilt top.
Inside, the hall has a floor inserted in the 16th century, along with traces of a former service door, partitions to the crosswing, and a 16th-century fireplace. Evidence suggests former screen partitions separated the cross passage from the hall. On the upper floor, arch-braced tie beams and parts of the frame are visible. The roof was rebuilt in the 17th century.
