Description

This is a terrace of three houses, located on the west side of Star Lane in Great Dunmow. The buildings date to the 17th and 18th centuries and are timber-framed structures, now plastered and with 20th-century pargetting (decorative plasterwork) and gabled peg tile roofs. The first floors of numbers 3 and 5 feature single double-hung sash windows with small panes and moulded surrounds. Number 3 has a 20th-century casement window and a door on the ground floor, while number 5 has a door with a scroll-bracketed hood and a 19th-century casement window. Number 7 also has a 20th-century door, accessed by steps, and 19th-century casement windows. Two ridge stacks are positioned above the shared party walls. The interior of number 7 reveals tie beams and timber framing, indicating an earlier 17th-century or older single-storey timber frame which was raised at a later date.
