Description
No. 4 Market Place is a building that originally served as a house and is now used for shops and flats. It dates from the late 16th century and features two storeys with attics. The structure is timber framed and plastered, topped with peg tiled roofs. The front of the building has four 'display' gables, each adorned with 19th-century bargeboards and a small double hung sash window. On the first floor, there are four double hung sash windows, each with two vertical glazing bars. The ground floor includes two 20th-century shopfronts, with a central passage leading to the rear. There are also 20th-century flat-roofed extensions at the back and a 19th-century red brick chimney stack located on the northwest corner of the front roof slope.
