Description

This is an early 19th-century timber-framed and plastered building on the east side of High Street, Great Dunmow, incorporating shops with residential flats above. The front elevation features an ashlar first floor with four double sash windows, each with moulded surrounds and margin glazing bars. At the rear is a 2-storey lean-to with a slate roof, and a separate 2-storey block with a peg-tiled gabled roof. The rear block’s English bond brickwork has a tall central line stack and a rendered gable, suggestive of a 17th or 18th-century origin. The north side wall is white weatherboarded and contains a mix of 20th-century sash and casement windows. The building is included on the list primarily for its group value.
