Description

This is a pair of shops and flats, located at 8-10 and 12 Market Place, Stowmarket, dating from the early 18th century. The building is timber-framed, originally plastered and colourwashed. The front has a slate roof, while the rear has plain tiles. The building is two storeys high. The shopfront at No. 8-10 was replaced in the mid-20th century with plate-glass windows, while No. 12 has an early 20th-century shopfront. The first floor has three casement windows, each with three arched lights within a square frame, each topped with a hood. A bracketed eaves cornice runs along the top of the building. The gabled roof includes two late 20th-century roof lights, and features two gault brick stacks on the front roof slopes. A rear cross wing contains an early 18th-century iron casement window.

The interior retains a timber frame with substantial timber members.
