Description
Blowers, located at No. 75 High Street in Great Dunmow, is a shop and flat dating from around 1500. It features a timber-framed and plastered structure topped with a gabled slate roof, which has an off-centre 19th-century chimney stack. The building stands two storeys high and includes a two-storey gabled rear extension from the 19th century. The front showcases a mid-19th-century shopfront with fascia end stop brackets and pilasters flanking the entrance door. At the northern end, there is an early 19th-century carriageway with a contemporary extension above it. On the first floor, there are two 20th-century replacement double-hung sash windows with glazing bars. Inside, the building reveals remnants of a single bay hall with a crosswing to the south, featuring heavy arched braces supporting the tie beam. There are also some early 19th-century elements, including a cupboard with panelled doors and serpentine shelves, as well as a contemporary turned baluster staircase.
