Description

No. 4 High Street is a shop and dwelling, likely dating from the 17th century, with alterations from the late 18th century and an extension in the 19th century. The building was probably originally timber-framed, now rendered to the front with incised masonry patterns, and has a plain-tile roof and a brick rear lateral stack. The building is arranged in three structural bays. It is two storeys high with a three-window front. A carriageway is located to the right of centre and contains a double-leaf door with four panels. A tripartite sash window is set into the ground floor to the left of centre, and a 19th-century shop front occupies the far left of the facade. First-floor windows are 12-pane sash windows. The building has a rendered plinth and dentilled brick eaves which are painted. Two flat-roofed dormer windows are set into the roof. A two-storey brick extension is located at the rear. The rear lateral stack features a pair of tall, square brick flues. The interior remains uninspected.
