Description

This is a pair of cottages, originally one dwelling, dating to the late 17th or early 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The cottages are constructed of coursed limestone rubble with a plain-tile roof and a brick ridge stack. They have a 1-unit plan and a 3-window front of two stories. A 20th-century door is located to the far right, with a wooden lintel and an applied Gothic arch surround featuring ornamental pierced spandrels. A bay window is present on the ground floor to the right of centre, and there are 2-light casement windows on the ground floor to the left of centre and on the first floor, all with wood lintels. Cogged brick eaves are visible, and a central gabled dormer window lights the roof. The interior of No. 32 features a chamfered spine beam. Manders Garden, a row of four cottages originally located to the rear of No. 32 and now demolished, was formerly accessed via a passage door on the far left. The entrance to No. 1 Manders Garden is through this same passage.
