Description
No. 8 High Street is a former shop and dwelling, now a restaurant, dating from the early to mid-19th century and altered in the 20th century. The building is constructed of brick in Flemish bond and is painted, featuring a 20th-century ridged tile roof that is hipped to the right, with stock brick end and internal stacks. It has an L-plan layout and is two stories tall with a two-window range. The central entrance is a 20th-century part-glazed door with an overlight and a moulded wood surround that includes incised pilasters and brackets supporting a cornice hood. To the right, there is a wide, shallow canted bay shop window, and to the left, a carriageway with double-leaf doors and a chamfered brick Tudor-arched head with imposts. The first floor has 12-pane sash windows with rendered heads. There is a storey band and wood modillion eaves, along with a two-storey wing to the rear left. The interior has not been inspected.
