Description
No. 5 High Street is a former house and shop, now used as a shop and office. It dates from the mid-18th century but has older origins and has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features flared headers in header bond with red brick detailing, a plain-tile roof, and a brick end stack. It has a one-unit plan and is two stories tall with a two-window range. There is a 20th-century door to the right, which has a moulded wood surround and a straight hood supported by scrolled brackets. To the left is a 19th-century shop window, which has been altered in the 20th century. The first floor has 12-pane sash windows in moulded wood surrounds. The building has a rendered plinth, with red brick used for the door and window jambs, as well as red brick quoins, a storey band, and wave moulded brick eaves. There is one flat-roofed dormer window. The end stack features a pair of diagonal brick flues. The interior retains the right gable end of the original one-storey and attic timber frame.
