Description

10 Meadow Row is a late 15th century to early 16th century building that has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. Originally used for shops and offices, it features a timber frame that is rendered with incised masonry patterns, plain-tile roofs, and brick ridge and end stacks. The building is arranged in an L-plan and is two stories high with a four-window range.

There is a carriageway to the right of the center, which has a moulded wood fascia over a wood lintel. To the right, there is a 20th-century shop front, while the left side features a similar shop front with a pair of panelled, part-glazed doors next to the shop window, all under a continuous fascia with a moulded cornice. The far left of the ground floor has a tripartite sash window with a moulded, rendered surround, and the first floor has 12-pane sash windows, except for a 9-pane sash window above the carriageway.

At the rear left is a two-storey wing, known as No.10 Meadow Row, which likely dates from the 17th century but has been significantly rebuilt in the 20th century. This wing is rendered and has a brick end stack, along with a 20th-century shop front facing what was once a courtyard called Stationers Court.

Inside, No.2 features a ceiling with many-moulded cross beams, a moulded cornice, and stop-moulded joists, along with painted chevron decoration on the cornice and large open fireplaces that include a cambered bar stop-chamfered bressumer and a bread oven. The first floor has scoop stop-chamfered spine beams. No.10 Meadow Row includes an open fireplace with a cambered ogee stop-chamfered bressumer.
