Description

The Old Post Office is a house and shop located in Little Hadham, dating from the 18th century or early 19th century, with an extension added in 1982. This tall, two-storey building features a timber frame and plastered exterior, situated on the roadside facing east, with two steps leading up to the door. The base has a black painted plinth and panelled pargetting. The roof is a low-pitched gable covered with slate, running parallel to the road, and there is an internal chimney on the south gable.

The front of the building is symmetrical, showcasing an early 19th-century double shop window and a central flush panelled half-glazed door that is rebated for a shutter. A small moulded fascia is present above the shop window. On the first floor, there is a single flush box sash window with eight panes. The high plinth is plastered and features a panelled fan pargetting design, which has been renewed.

The north extension, built in 1982, matches the original structure and is slightly recessed, with one window on each floor and a hipped slate roof. The shop front on the north return replicates the original design.
