Description
Ford End is a 17th-century house located on the east side of The Ford in Little Hadham. This tall and unusually large building has two storeys and attics, constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior, facing west. It features a gabled old red tile roof with two large gables at the front. The house has a lobby entry plan, with a large central chimney and an off-centre door to the south. The ground floor has been rebuilt in painted brick, complete with a plinth. The front has four windows, which are 19th-century three-light small paned wooden casements. There is a six-panel door located beneath a small flat canopy supported by shaped brackets. The central chimney is made of red brick with square joined shafts. The front displays panelled pargetting with varied patterns, while the south end is weatherboarded. The house is situated in an important position at a bend in the road at the northern end of the village.
