Description

The Post Office Wareside Stores is a house and shop located in Wareside, dating from the late 17th century. It features a timber frame that is plastered and has steep old red tile roofs. The building is arranged in an L-shape with three units. The front range includes a larger room on the east side, which is served by an external gable chimney. The narrower west part contains the entrance and a rear wall chimney at the junction with the rear wing.

The building is two stories high and has a front that is two windows wide, with an asymmetrical arrangement. The upper floor has two flush box sash windows with moulded surrounds. On the ground floor, there is a similar window on the left, alongside a low four-panel flush-beaded door set in a heavy frame, which features a moulded architrave and a moulded flat hood supported by shaped brackets. To the right, there is a small 19th-century shop window with a moulded fascia and small panes.

There is a single-storey plastered extension on the right, which has a tiled roof and features taller shop windows on either side of a four-panelled flush-beaded door with a fanlight and a moulded flat hood on shaped brackets. The two-storey gabled rear wing is also plastered, has an internal gable chimney, and a tile roof, along with a two-storey canted bay window with sash windows. Additionally, there is a lower one-and-a-half-storey plaster and tiled outbuilding extending to the rear.
