Description

Overhill House is a house that dates back to the 17th century and was refronted in the early 18th century. It was extended at the northern end around 1800. The building is timber-framed and plastered, topped with an old red tiled roof. It has two storeys, attics, and a cellar, and faces east. Originally, it was a small L-shaped house consisting of a front range with two rooms and a staircase hall between them, along with a large kitchen in a rear wing that featured a large chimney with an oven at the junction of the ranges. A rear lateral chimney served the right-hand front room, while the other room was unheated. Around 1800, the house was extended to the north, and a fireplace was added to heat the old southern room. The symmetrical east front is finished in stucco and includes a plinth, quoins, and modillion eaves. There are three windows with one window above two in the northern extension. The windows are flush box sashes with six-over-six panes and have moulded cornices over the lower windows. To the right of the central six-panel door with a fanlight, there is a small paned triple casement. The door is set in a plain doorcase with a full entablature, a swelled frieze, and a triangular pediment. The roofs slope down to a single storey at the rear.
