Description
The farmhouse at Newhouse Farm is a late 17th-century building that underwent alterations in the early 19th century and around 1958. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond with random blue headers and features old red tile roofs. The house is two storeys high and includes a cellar and attics. Originally, it was either U-shaped or L-shaped, with the main range facing south. The rear west wing appears to be original and has 'HC 1765' carved on its east face, which was formerly on an external wall. A similar rear east wing is likely original as well, with a narrow courtyard between that has since been filled in.
The building has a plinth, a floor band, and a band at eaves level across cables, along with gable parapets that have kneelers and square finials on the west cables. It features large central chimney stacks and a butt-purlin roof structure with frequent tie-beams. The south front has three symmetrical windows with a modillioned cornice, a four-panel half-glazed door accessed by four steps, which is topped with a hood and fanlight, and recessed box sashes with 8/8 panes of crown glass. There is a 19th-century canted bay window with sashes on either side of the door, and segmental arches over the windows on the other sides. Additionally, there is a two-storey 19th-century extension on the west side. Inside, the staircase is from the 17th century and features a bolection-moulded dado and two types of balusters.
