Description

House. Dating from the 17th century or earlier, Hermitage Cottage is a timber-frame building, now plastered, with a steep roof covered in old red tiles. It is a long, one-and-a-half-storey building situated close to the road. The main entrance is now at the rear. The east-facing (road) front has five irregularly spaced windows, and three gabled dormers set along the wallplate. The windows are flush casements, with dripboards above, and include two-light and four-light designs. Dormers have two-light casements, also with dripboards. The building likely consists of five structural bays. A central chimney is located north of the centre, and a smaller external chimney is situated at the south end.
