Description
Hill House is a house and shop located on Low Street in Brandeston. It dates from the mid-18th century, with a 19th-century addition at the west end. The original building has an L-shaped plan and is timber framed, featuring a facade clad in wood blocks that imitate rustication, while the rest is plastered. The roof is hipped and covered with plain tiles. The structure has two storeys and an attic, with six windows and a shop on the left side. The windows are sashes with glazing bars set in flush frames, and there is one painted dummy window on the first floor, along with a shop window that matches the style.
The shop doorway has a half-glazed door with a shouldered architrave, an enriched frieze, and a dentil cornice. To the right, there is a doorway with a six-panel raised and fielded door, where the upper two panels are glazed, also featuring a shouldered architrave, an enriched frieze, and a pedimented cornice. An external stack is located on the left side of the building. The right-hand return front has three bays, with dummy painted windows in the centre bay and an internal stack. The right-hand ground floor room is panelled and has an ornate leadwork frieze similar to those above the external doorways.
