Description
The entrance gateway to Brandeston Hall dates from the mid 19th century. It is constructed of red brick, featuring diapering on the lower part of the wall. The gate piers are square with chamfered corners and topped with moulded brick finials that match the caps of the pinnacles on the Hall. The gateway has paired wrought iron gates with lower carved wooden panels. On each side of the gateway, there are sections of curved walling that end in similar piers, with additional straight sections of wall extending about 15 meters in each direction, also terminating in piers. The upper part of the walling is designed as an arcade of semi-circular headed arches, each fitted with wrought iron railings. Above this, there is a course of bricks laid in a sawtooth pattern, finished with brick copings.
