Description
The entrance gateway to Windlestone Hall features piers, quadrant walls, and gates, likely dating from the early 19th century, although the walls have been altered. It includes sandstone ashlar piers and walls with wrought iron gates designed in an 18th-century style. The segmental-topped dwarf walls exhibit chamfered rustication and have raised coping that has been re-used. The front square piers are topped with pyramidal coping, and the gate piers have wide cornices and ball finials. The gates, which sweep up to the outer ends, feature top and bottom bands of quatrefoils that connect massive spear-headed uprights of octagonal section.
