Description
The building is a stable block, now used as classrooms for Windlestone Hall School. It was likely built in the early 19th century and has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. The structure is rendered with an ashlar plinth, quoins, and dressings, and features a roof made of graduated Lakeland slate with a tile ridge. The stable block is arranged in a U-shape around three sides of a courtyard, with a clock tower located over the gateway on the fourth side.
The building is one storey high and consists of five wide bays, with seven-bay wings that project forward. The central block has rusticated voussoirs and jambs around three large floor-length windows that have glazing bars. To the left, there is a sash window, and to the right, a half-glazed door, both set under label moulds. The left wing contains similar sash windows, all featuring fine glazing bars, as well as three doors, also under label moulds. The right wing has windows with glazing bars that were likely part of former wide doors, possibly used as coach-houses. The roof is hipped, and the front of the left wing has a louvred opening set in an architrave under a label mould. Additionally, the left return of the building has blocked roundels with stone surrounds.
