Description
The Clock Tower north of Windlestone Hall is a stable gateway clock tower with attached walls, likely built in the early 19th century. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features a lead-covered dome. The three-stage tower has channelled rustication on the first two stages, corner pilasters, and a high round arch with stepped voussoirs. Each stage is topped with a cornice and blocking course, with the second stage displaying four large painted clock dials. The circular colonnade drum, designed in a smooth Doric order with a triglyph frieze, supports the high dome, which is topped with a weather-vane finial.
Attached to the left is a low one-storey, one-bay building that has a blocked central door. The dwarf walls extending along the east side of the stable yard and the drive to the rear of Windlestone Hall have gently-curved coping and are slightly stepped, interrupted by a pedestrian gateway at the south-east corner of the yard.
